About Me

My background is both in history and journalism. I recently retired as a senior writer with the News and Public Affairs Office in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois. I hold bachelor's and master's degrees in history and a master's degree in journalism, all from the University of Illinois. I spent two years as a teaching assistant in the History Department and recently taught as a visiting lecturer in the College of Media. My major interests are Alfred Iverson's brigade in the Civil War and Maj. Gen. Robert Rodes' Division in the Gettysburg campaign. My first book, The Rashness of that Hour: Politics, Gettysburg, and the Downfall of Confederate Brigadier General Alfred Iverson, was recently published by Savas Beatie, LLC.
